Research output: PhD ThesisPhd-Thesis - Research and graduation internal

Abstract

hapter 1 provides background information and the risk of STI on the main theme of this thesis: men who have sex with men (MSM) and, to a lesser extent, transfeminine persons at risk of sexually transmitted infections (STI) at the centre of sexual health (CSH) of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This thesis is divided in several topics. In chapter 2, 3 and 4 we describe sexual related behaviour - anal douching and drug use. In chapter 5 and 6 we describe evidence of sexually acquired hepatitis C virus (HCV) among HIV-negative MSM. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a pill which prevents HIV. In chapter 7 and 8, we describe results of the AMsterdam PrEP (AMPrEP) demonstration project. In chapter 9 and 10, we describe the syndemic based intervention (syn.bas.in), an open-label randomized controlled trial, that aims to improve health seeking behavior by screening for mental disorders, feedback and personal referral.
