Abstract
Purpose: To report the experience of one Dutch center with endoscopic nephrectomy for non-functioning kidneys. Method: The present study comprised 53 patients who underwent endoscopic nephrectomy in a retroperitoneal approach. Results: In 53 patients, mean age 42.8±18.4 years, 54 endoscopic nephrectomies for different indications were done. Of the 61 intentions for endoscopic nephrectomies there were 7 conversions to open surgery. A total of 10 (18.5%) complications occurred, only one of them was major, and no mortality resulted. Conclusions: Endoscopic nephrectomy in retroperitoneal approach can be performed safely and successfully with advantages for non-functioning kidneys regardless the etiology or pathogenesis.
