Repair in rheumatoid arthritis, current status. Report of a workshop at OMERACT 8

Research output: Contribution to journalArticleAcademicpeer-review

Abstract

Repair of structural damage in rheumatoid arthritis has drawn much attention with newly available effective treatments. A workshop was held at OMERACT 8 to update current knowledge on the validity of the concept of repair and on the assessment of repair. In preparation for the workshop several studies were performed and the results were presented. This was followed by a discussion and voting on statements on various aspects of repair. A majority of participants agreed that results of the new studies strengthen the validity of the concept of repair, and that repair can be assessed on radiographs. There was less agreement on the best means of measurement and there was a plea for more extensive reporting of data, i.e., not limited to sum scores of all joints together. The conclusions of the workshop mean a big step forward in the acceptance and assessment of repair
