Abstract
This chapter describes the clinical significance of lateral nodal disease for patients with (distal) rectal cancer. It highlights the differences in the traditional treatment of rectal cancer between Eastern and Western physicians with regard to imaging, neoadjuvant treatment, and the indications for a lateral lymph node dissection; a procedure which is described in detail toward the end of this chapter.
