Abstract
Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) are common in infants and toddlers and are characterized by chronic or recurrent gastrointestinal symptoms that cannot be explained by structural or biochemical abnormalities. This article sheds light on the most common FGIDs in infants and toddlers, including regurgitation and gastroesophageal reflux (GER), infant dyschezia, functional constipation, functional diarrhea, and infant colic. This article describes the background, pathophysiology, diagnostic evaluation, and management strategies of these FGIDs.
