title = "Endoscopic Technique for Noncalcified Tendinopathy",
abstract = "Retrocalcaneal bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa located in the retrocalcaneal recess between the anterior aspect of the Achilles tendon and the posterosuperior part of the calcaneus. The inflammation is caused by repetitive impingement between the ventral side of the Achilles tendon and the posterosuperior calcaneal prominence. Patients present themselves with a typical pain when starting to walk after a period of rest. It can occur bilaterally, mainly in women and often at the end of the second or third decade. A distinction must be made between retrocalcaneal bursitis, superficial calcaneal bursitis, and insertional and midportion Achilles tendinopathy. This distinction can be made by acquiring a detailed medical history and physical examination (Figs. 10.1 and 10.2).",
