Abstract
Ex vivo imaging of human embryos and fetuses is gaining increasing interest from various fields, including developmental biologists, medical specialists, and forensic experts. After termination of pregnancy for congenital anomalies, intrauterine fetal demise, or stillbirths, fetal autopsy is often recommended to confirm or refute the clinical diagnosis [1]. Although fetal autopsy has its pitfalls, mainly in younger or macerated fetuses, it often results in clinically significant findings that might impact future pregnancies of the parents [2]. It is therefore regrettable but understandable that parental acceptance of invasive autopsy has decreased over time, mainly due to the invasiveness of the procedure [3].
