Abstract
Introduction Facilitating informed decision making (IDM) by individuals is an essential prerequisite for deliberated participation in cancer screening and crucial for persons’ autonomy. For making informed decisions, it is generally accepted that individuals understand relevant information about benefits and harms of cancer screening, which should be evaluated against their values. For monitoring the quality of cancer screening programs and for evaluation of other IDM interventions, a valid IDM measure is crucial. Currently, a valid measure is lacking, due to complexities of the IDM definition and operationalisation. Based on a newly developed IDM definition, this study aimed to develop and validate the new Amsterdam IDM scale with subscales: (1)IDM process; (2)IDM conditions.
