Forensic High and Intensive Care: the needed culture change, the bestpractices, challenges and overall efficiency.

Since 2016, Forensic High and Intensive Care (FHIC) has been implemented as
a new care model in Dutch forensic psychiatry. The aim of FHIC is to reduce
coercive- and controlled-based care and aspire contact-based care. The
implementation of the FHIC model is experienced positively by care
professionals working at the FHIC-wards, but challenges are also faced. The
project will be divided in three pillars.

The first pillar will primarily focus on the required culture change by teams
and the collaboration with referring care professionals. A reflection method
supporting this culture change will be developed for the FHIC teams.

The second pillar is to focus on the profile of each FHIC team, as FHIC is being
implemented in various (forensic) mental health care setting. In this pillar the
best-practices and areas of improvement will be studied.

In the third pillar the efficiency of FHIC, related to coercive measures,
(aggression) incidents and absenteeism will be studied.
