Description

The Health Behaviors & Chronic Diseases (HBCD) program launches its first writing retreat call. With this call we want to provide HBCD members with ample time for focussed and distraction-free writing on scientific manuscripts that fit the research themes of HBCD.

The aim of this writing retreat is to enable up to 30 participants to make significant progress on one of their writing projects. Together with other HBCD researchers, they will isolate themselves for three days. Free from emails, meetings, calls, teaching obligations, and other distractions.

Most of the time will be reserved for writing, but there will also be time scheduled for brief discussions in small peer groups, for setting goals and to generate solutions to writing problems or provide feedback on writing in-progress.

When
The writing retreat will take place from 24th to 26th of January 2022. Meals and lodging will be included. You will have your own hotel room, but the writing activities will take place in a conference room. Drinks and snacks will be at your own expense.

Where
The location will be announced as soon as possible. It will be a place well served by public transport.

Requirements
• The page limit for applications is 2 pages.
• The applicant must be a HBCD member. We welcome junior, medior and senior researchers.
• Participants will be required to devote their time during the retreat to writing. During group sessions, they will discuss their manuscript which they are working on and the issues they encounter. Participation will therefore be limited to researchers who have a concrete writing project at hand. This means that the project is preferably well beyond the analysis phase and the focus is on getting the results on paper in the best possible way.
• The assessment criteria below will be used when evaluating the proposals. There is place for a maximum of 30 researchers.

How and when to apply?
The completed HBCD Grant Writing retreat application form (see below) has to be submitted to [email protected]. The deadline for submissions is Monday 22nd of November.

Assessment criteria
Applications will be assessed by the HBCD junior and medior council. They will evaluate:
- To which extent the proposal is in line with HBCD’s core themes;
- To which extent the writing project is sufficiently succinct and concrete to make significant progress in three days;
- The motivation of the researcher;
- The composition of the participating group as a whole, taking into account professional and personal diversity.
