Personal profile
Research interests
Veerle Coupé is associate professor medical decision making, with a focus on optimization and personalization of oncological care and prevention. She leads the research group decision modeling and healthcare evaluation of the Department of Epidemiology and Data Science and is chair of the Decision Modeling Center Amsterdam. Veerle is astronomer by training, with an MSc degree in clinical epidemiology and a PhD degree in medical informatics. She combines her mathematical and epidemiological background in a range of multidisciplinary projects where modelling is used to link data sources and integrate biological and clinical information. These disease models are used to evaluate the health-economic potential of new technologies and to support medical decision making
Her current research work, funded through various grants, including the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research & Development (ZonMw), the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF), and Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) includes:
- Modelling the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of colorectal cancer prevention and surveillance.
- Assessment of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on colorectal cancer screening outcomes and identification of optimal mitigation strategies
- Personalization of adjuvant treatment allocation and follow-up after treatment for early-stage colorectal cancer
- Health technology assessment for different application of testing for circulating tumour DNA in both lung and colorectal cancer
- Development and evaluation of statistical methods to estimate the duration to cancer progression
- The evaluation of strategies to personalize and optimize lung cancer treatment and surveillance.
