Eliminating HIV by improving HIV testing strategies for general practitioners and medical specialists

The last mile toward zero new HIV infections will be difficult and challenging. Especially testing needs more attention. Guidelines recommend that any person presenting with an Indicator Condition, which is a disease with more chance of having HIV, or in persons at high risk, should be tested, but many opportunities are missed. The aim of this project is to increase HIV testing by diverse medical specialists and general practitioners (GPs), through the development and implementation of multifaceted interventions. We will start in Amsterdam, with the intention to promote scaling up elsewhere in the Netherlands. The final purpose is to improve the quality of care offered to undiagnosed HIV positive patients thereby reducing the disease burden and ongoing HIV transmission.
