Research interests

My clinical and research interests lie within diabetes around large hormonal transitions (pregnancy, menopause) and diabetes technology as well as in-hospital glucose regulation.

My goal is to improve the health of women with diabetes during pregnancy and menopause through top clinical care, conducting clinical research with a focus on technology and training the empathic physician of the future.

Currently, I set up a nationwide registry for pregnant women with pregestational diabetes and map the current care paths for these women in the Netherlands (funded by Diabetesfonds). The goal is to  be able to benchmark care and implement a national best care protocol.

Also I am workpackage leader of the diabetes research line within the MenoPause consortium (funded by NWO) looking at the effect of (peri)menopause on diabetes development and regulation within the HELIUS cohort as well as the type 1 and type 2 population through interventional studies.

Further, to improve in-hospital care we perform the GUIDE study (funded by ZonMw) comparing a basal-bolus to a sliding-scale insuline regimen in postoperative surgical patients with type 2 diabetes in the hospital and look at the effect on postoperative wound infections.
