Research interests

My translational immunology research evolves around the overarching theme “The molecular regulation of inflammation”. Projects integrate basic immunological experiments, novel techniques and sampling of multiple tissues (translational medicine). Ultimate goals include development of new treatment strategies targeting (non-canonical) NF-κB signaling for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs).

Keywords: signal transduction pathways (i.e. NF-κB signaling), AIRE, rheumatoid arthritis, (rare) systemic autoimmune diseases including vasculitis, synovial inflammation, lymph node biology, immune cells, stromal cells, angiogenesis, gene therapy.

Participation in (inter)national consortia: ImmuneImage, DC4Balance, Joint Biology Consortium (Harvard/MIT), ARCAID, the Human Cell Atlas project.

Active member of various EULAR taskforces, EULAR synovitis study group (ESSG), and Standing Committee on Investigative Rheumatology (ESCIR).
