Research interests

Norah van Mello combined residency for gynecologist with her PhD research project (2007-2015). Her research included systematic meta-analysis papers, RCTs and an international consensus statement. During her PhD she was especially skilled in patient preference studies in fertility research.

From 2016 onward Van Mello is imbedded a staff gynecologist in the Center of Expertise on Gender Dysphoria, Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc, as surgeon, endocrinologist and fertility consultant. She initiated dedicated fertility counselling for transgender people. She was in the lead in the development of an online Decision Aid for fertility preservation with a team of medical specialists, psychologists and patients (transmen, oncology and endometriosis).

Van Mello is co-promotor of four PhD students all within the field of transgender care, fertility and gynecology. She established international collaborations, was co-authoring the Fertility & Reproduction chapter for the Standards of Care of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), and was invited speaker for the Year in Review on Reproductive Health at European Proffesional Association for Transgender Health (EPATH) 2021.
