Personal profile
Research interests
As an Associate Professor at Amsterdam UMC and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool van Amsterdam; HvA), my objective is to improve rehabilitation care for patients with complex care needs across the continuum from hospital to home.
My research focuses on the development, evaluation, and implementation of evidence-based, interprofessional allied health interventions aimed at improving physical functioning and participation. Key research areas include (1) personalized care interventions (supported by health technology when of added value), and (2) organizational care interventions such as transmural care pathways and network-based care models.
Target populations include patients with multimorbidity requiring interprofessional care, such as intensive care unit survivors, patients undergoing major oncological or cardiothoracic surgery, and vulnerable older adults with complex care needs. In addition, my work addresses the development of competencies for healthcare professionals, with a focus on supporting patient self-reliance and optimizing transitions from hospital to home.
Positioned at both an academic medical center and a university of applied sciences, my research bridges practice, research, and education, with a strong emphasis on implementation and the translation of scientific insights into clinical practice and professional education. My work is guided by a strong belief in team science: cross-disciplinary collaboration that integrates diverse perspectives and expertise to address complex rehabilitation challenges and achieve sustainable impact.
