Epidemiology and control of poverty-related infectious diseases, in particular tuberculosis.
My scientific interest is in infectious diseases in resource-poor populations, specifically in multi-, inter- and transdisciplinary approaches to problems at the interface of their biomedical aspects, their socioeconomic context and control policy. I combine classical epidemiology with operational research and cost-effectiveness modeling.
My recent work focuses on tuberculosis and includes TB diagnostics, prediction of TB disease, TB vaccines and evaluation of novel interventions for TB control. My work strongly links to global policy, among others through participation in several WHO expert panels and advisory boards.
