Research interests
My research interest lies at the interface of endocrine surgery, tumour biology, and the tumour microenvironment (TME). Building on well-characterized patient cohorts and surgically obtained tumour tissue, my research aims to understand how interactions between tumour cells, immune cells, stromal components, and their molecular environment influence tumour behaviour, prognosis, and treatment response. I am developing this translational research line across endocrine and neuroendocrine malignancies, with a particular focus on papillary thyroid carcinoma, pheochromocytoma, and small-intestinal neuroendocrine tumours. A key strength is the integration of my clinical and surgical expertise with advanced bioinformatics, multi-omics, machine learning, and TME analysis. My ambition is to identify clinically relevant tumour ecosystems and biological mechanisms that can ultimately improve risk stratification, patient selection, and personalized treatment. In parallel, I am actively involved in developing high-quality clinical data infrastructures through participation in the ENETS Database and EUROCRINE, supporting multicentre clinical research and systematic evaluation of endocrine surgical quality. Linking these longitudinal clinical and outcome data with tumour tissue and molecular TME profiles provides an important foundation for translating preclinical discoveries into clinically meaningful biomarkers, prospective studies, and ultimately individualized patient care.
