Yvette van Kooyk is one if this year's recipients of the Spinoza Priz for her grounsbreaking work in glycoimmunology. Immune suppressing sugars in the tumor microenvironment also act as a checkpoint. If we can release thie "brake", we can strongly enhance the effecitiveness of other anti-cancer drugs.
